Among the hustle and bustle of the summer beach crowds lies Sussex County’s hidden gem, Trap Pond State Park. The site’s 3,800 acres offer more than just water activities, such as kayaking and fishing on the pond. Camping sites, playgrounds, hiking and biking trails, and wildlife watching are among the array of activities available at the park, providing people of all ages and interests with something to enjoy. Trap Pond also makes for an excellent picnicking area!

Trap Pond frequently books months in advance for events and camping sites, making the fall and winter perfect times to begin planning visits. Additionally, the park requires a great deal of work year round from employees who are always in need of volunteers. The Trap Pond Partners are a non-profit volunteer organization that anyone can join to help preserve and promote the park, as well as assist with the educational programs and park events. Whether volunteering or visiting for fun, Trap Pond State Park is easily one of the most tranquil locations in Delaware. For camping and pavilion rentals call 1-877-987-2757, or visit www.destateparks.com. To become a Trap Pond Partner visit www.trappondpartners.net or attend one of their meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Baldcypress Nature Center.
