GREENWOOD, Del. - Delaware Electric Cooperative returned $3,200 in capital credits to Sussex County’s Government Tuesday. Bill Andrew, President and CEO of the Co-op, delivered a check for more than $3,000 to the Sussex County Council.

Late last year the Co-op’s Board of Directors announced the return of $4.1 million in capital credits from 1991, 1992 and part of 2010 to member-owners. Delaware Electric Cooperative is member-owned, so any profits are returned to member-owners through what are called capital credits. Bill Andrew said member’s efforts to reduce their energy usage through the Co-op’s “Beat the Peak” program helped allow the Delaware Electric Cooperative to return the capital credits.

Member-owners started receiving capital credit checks or credits on their electric bills in late November. The process ended early this year. Delaware Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility serving 84,000 member-owners in Kent and Sussex County, Delaware.
