An elaborate display at John's Four Seasons Florist.

For many of us, our dreams and aspirations are formed and fostered when we are young. John Beauchamp, owner of John’s Four Seasons Florist, was no different. As a young man in high school, he was assigned a project during the holiday season, to which his father fatefully responded, “I can show you how to make a Christmas wreath.” In that moment, the seed was planted for what has grown to be a beloved and fruitful career.

Over the past 44 years, 32 of those at the shop’s current location in Federalsburg, Md., Beauchamp and his wife, Terri, have made a living designing and selling floral arrangements. DEC powers several Maryland homes and businesses, including the Beauchamp’s flower shop.

Their regular service area spans five neighboring towns that include 11,000 to 12,000 people. Beauchamp has designed arrangements for a variety of events, from local weddings and holiday celebrations to serving on a team that provided arrangements for Congressional Days at the White House. Regardless of the occasion, Beauchamp maintains his consistent standard of excellence. The cornerstone of his business is his commitment to customer service.

“I’ve always built my company on quality service, and you know, when someone orders through John’s Four Seasons, they know they are going to be satisfied,” Beauchamp says.

A major part of that satisfaction comes from Beauchamp’s attention to detail, apparent in his unique floral designs, as well as in his knowledge of his client base. With the help of a digital coding system, Beauchamp keeps records of customer preferences, giving each interaction a real sense of thoughtfulness.

Terri Beauchamp credits much of their success to this customer consideration. “He remembers everything. When people come in, he knows who they are, he knows what they like, what they don’t like. We are about family. It’s like a family, and it’s like a personal touch. It’s all personal,” she says.

It’s no surprise that generations of families continue to come back to Beauchamp for their floral arrangement needs, be it weddings, anniversaries, birthdays or funerals, and as Beauchamp says, “All that can happen in one day.”

The sign on the front door says it all: “Beautiful things begin here.” For Beauchamp, it’s less of a kind sentiment and more of a life practice. Bringing joy and comfort to his customers through his artistic ability makes the work Beauchamp does more than a job. It makes it a passion.

“I think that’s really my heart’s objective,” Beauchamp says. “Because as you do things for other people, it enriches your life, and I’ve always loved that.”
