Community Gardens Sprout in Kent County

Gardening season has arrived and a group of citizens and businesses in Kent County are working to grow community gardens across the county. The goal of Kent Community Gardens is to bring businesses, organizations and individuals together to build community gardens in Central Delaware. Gardens help bring the community together and can provide healthy food to folks in Kent County. In 2014, more than one dozen gardens sprouted across the county, helping to feed communities.  The group is now looking for neighborhoods to sponsor and plant new gardens. They also need volunteers to help weed, care for the plants and harvest the fresh produce. Many organizations are helping to foster this renewed community gardens effort in Kent County and the dedicated group is always looking for new partners and volunteers! 

What If I Already Have a Garden? 

If you are already an avid gardener, try planting an extra row of vegetables! The Interfaith Mission for Housing and other non-profit organizations are always in need of fresh, healthy foods. Try planting an extra row of peppers and tomatoes. When you have extra vegetables, please drop them off at the Dover Housing Authority located at 76 Stevenson Drive, Dover, DE 19901. For pickup of larger deliveries, please email [email protected]. The extra food will help feed hungry Delawareans and you can feel good knowing it came from your garden.
