It’s National Co-op Month, and this October, DEC is celebrating all the ways we work to serve the people and places we power. As a not-for-profit utility, our members are our top priority, and we are committed to creating a member experience centered on providing the most reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity possible. We continue to innovate our lines with outage-minimizing automation. With the help of distribution automation (DA), our system can identify a problem on the lines and isolate it, reducing the number of members affected and helping to reduce overall restoration times. Our work in developing solar projects within our service territory aids the Co-op in reducing our carbon footprint, giving us the opportunity to build and maintain a grid that will be here to provide electric for future generations. By participating in our Beat the Peak program, the Co-op members have the opportunity to save money by conserving energy during peak alert times, and involves them in the process of keeping the cost of electricity affordable for everyone. Unlike for-profit-utilities, the money Co-op members pay for service every month is an investment to maintain the system for everyone. After about a decade, members receive a return on their investment in the form of capital credits — a billing credit that reduces the cost of their bill during the holiday season. These are just a few of the ways the Co-op puts members first — our mission is always about our members. Happy National Co-op Month!
