DEC CEO Named Honorary Commander for State Police

Delaware Electric Cooperative’s President and CEO Bill Andrew has been named an Honorary Commander for the Delaware State Police. Andrew was named an Honorary Commander of Troop Three near Camden in Kent County.

Andrew was inducted into the program at a special ceremony held on Wednesday, January 24th at the Delaware State Police Museum in Dover. Delaware State Police Superintendent Colonel Nathaniel McQueen Jr. led the ceremony, which honored outgoing 2017 Honorary Commanders and welcomed the 2018 honorees.

According to Captain Joshua Bushweller, Commander of Troop Three, “The Honorary Commander Program partners Delaware State Police Commanders with key community, business and political leaders in order to foster a mutually beneficial partnership. Program goals include encouraging an exchange of ideas, experiences and understanding with the benefit of building and strengthening the bond between the Division and the communities we serve. This program also aims to increase the Division’s involvement in civic endeavors and organizations while integrating members of the local community into the Delaware State Police family.”

Through the program, Andrew will be invited to attend Academy graduations, award ceremonies and memorial services. He will also be able to participate in ride-alongs, training exercises and learn more about the Delaware State Police special unit. Delaware Electric Cooperative also expects to host events to allow police officers to learn more about the utility and its day-to-day operations.

According to Andrew, “I am honored to have been chosen for the Honorary Commander program. I have always had a great deal of respect for the men and women of the force who put their lives on the line for Delawareans every day. I look forward to learning more about their important work and hope they are able to learn more about the Cooperative in an effort to make our community a better place for all of us to live.”
