DEC Gears Up for Gaff-n-Go Rodeo
May. 1, 2025 | Co-op News
For some, the month of May marks the time of year when flowers begin to bloom. For others, the start of May means we’re one month closer to the summer season. At DEC, May means one thing: it’s time to go to the rodeo – the lineworker rodeo, that is!
Each year, the Co-op sends a team of lineworkers to Doswell, Virginia to participate in the Gaff-n-Go Rodeo, a competition that showcases the skills of crews from across the nation. This year, DEC will send one Journeyman team, along with two apprentice lineworkers to compete in a variety of challenges, including the Hurtman Rescue — a challenge that requires competitors to “save” a 175-pound stunt dummy, representing a fellow lineworker injured while working on the lines. This year, DEC will also have a team compete in the Gaff-n-Grill portion of the competition. Participants in this event are challenged to prepare the top-tasting dish in four pre-determined categories.
According to Vice President of Operations Jesse Spampinato, the Gaff-n-Go Rodeo provides teams with the chance to demonstrate their skills through fun and friendly competition. “Gaff-n-Go is essentially a great competition for lineworkers,” Spampinato says. “It’s a great opportunity for our crews to compete with their peers from all over the country. The day will showcase the line crews’ abilities and allow friends and families to recognize everything it takes to be a lineworker.”
Please join us in wishing team DEC luck as they prepare for their events this year!
