At DEC, the people and places we serve are at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to our communities goes beyond providing quality electric service, and empowers them with opportunities to improve their quality of life — including educational opportunities.

Partnering with the National Energy Foundation (NEF), DEC provides safe energy programs to elementary school students across our service territory. NEF programs offer a fun and interactive way for children to learn about electricity and how to safely enjoy its benefits.

High school seniors whose homes are served by DEC can apply for Co-op scholarships through the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) Education Scholarship Foundation. Eligible students can receive $1,500 toward college or a trade school. High school juniors who live on Co-op lines can apply to participate in DEC's Youth Tour program — representing DEC as student delegates in Washington, D.C. while learning about the cooperative business model.

The Co-op's Summer Internship Program allows college students the opportunity to explore careers in the electric utility field. Interns work with industry experts to complete hands-on projects, enabling them to gain professional experience in a real world environment.

Through these programs and initiatives, DEC is proud to empower the next generation of Co-op members to grow into the community leaders of tomorrow.
