DEC's Beat the Peak Program Bolsters Affordability

At DEC, reliability and affordability are at the center of everything we do. Since the Co-op was founded in 1936, we have been committed to providing the people and places we serve with the most affordable power possible. Still, maintaining some of the lowest rates in the region requires more than just commitment — it requires innovation. 

A prime example of DEC's innovative spirit at work is our Beat the Peak program. The goal of Beat the Peak is to reduce the demand for electricity when the cost of producing power is highest. The Co-op achieves this by asking members to voluntarily conserve energy during these peak times. 

When the program originally launched, members were notified of peak alerts through the use of DEC's in-home, plug-in indicators. Today, members receive a notification through the Co-op's Beat the Peak app instead — ensuring they never miss a peak alert again, regardless of where they are. 

Since 2008, Beat the Peak has saved members more than $45 million thanks to the continued support and participation of those we're proud to power. No matter how you choose to save energy, everyone can Beat the Peak!
