When DEC members save a little, they help everyone on Co-op lines save a lot! That’s the premise of our Beat the Peak program, which has saved members more than $4.5 million this year.

Launched in 2008, Beat the Peak helps the Co-op keep rates affordable for everyone we’re proud to power. When DEC issues a Beat the Peak alert, we ask members to voluntarily conserve energy during the alert period. In doing so, members help us keep energy costs low when the cost to produce power is highest. Members can download DEC’s Beat the Peak app to ensure they never miss an alert, as well as to learn all the ways they can save energy.

Not running major appliances such as dryers and dishwashers, turning off unnecessary lights in your home and grilling outside instead of using the oven are just a few ways to save. Members with programmable thermostats can also Beat the Peak by signing up to participate in our Beat the Peak with Thermostats program. By allowing the Co-op to remotely adjust their thermostat by a few degrees during peak alerts, members can earn a one-time $25 billing credit and an additional $5 monthly billing credit throughout the summer months.

Beat the Peak was created to help DEC provide not only the most reliable power possible to our members, but also the most affordable. While we are proud of this innovative program’s success, much of the credit goes to you, our members, for your participation. Thank you for your continued support for nearly 20 years!
