With prices increasing across the country, the cost of energy is no different! Help DEC manage rates by participating in our Beat the Peak Program.

As record inflation continues to result in steep increases in the price of gasoline, groceries and other everyday commodities, the cost of producing your power is also soaring. If this troubling trend continues, our Co-op will likely have to raise rates over the next couple of months. While our not-for-profit can’t control government policy or the global energy crisis, our Beat the Peak program can help to reduce the impact of skyrocketing energy prices. The idea behind the program is simple: when the price of energy is high during the hottest summer days, we ask members to voluntarily conserve electricity. This lowers the overall cost of power that all members pay. The program is one of the reasons our rates have been among the lowest in the region for more than a decade. Please consider downloading the free Beat the Peak app on your mobile device so you can be the first to know when it is time to conserve. During Beat the Peak alerts, consider raising your thermostat a few degrees, delay the use of major appliances like washers and dryers, and consider cooking outside on the grill. If you have a Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat or an electric vehicle charger, you may also be eligible to receive billing credits when you conserve during alert times. You can learn more about this important program by visiting www.beatthepeak.coop. You can also find energy calculators and other saving tips by visiting www.delaware.coop and selecting “energy savings.”
