Lower Rates and Excellent Reliability: DEC's Year-In-Review
Dec. 2, 2024 | Co-op News
It's hard to believe the new year is just around the corner. 2024 has proven to be a busy, but productive year for DEC, as our team continues to make good on their commitment to keep the lights on. Our dedication to system reliability remains one of our top priorities, as well as maintaining the most affordable electric rates in the region. In April, most members saw a decrease in their monthly bill. Our Co-op lowered rates again in July, meaning members are now paying the lowest electric rates in Delaware. Our Beat the Peak program also saved members nearly $2 million this year. Thank you to everyone who lowered energy use during times of peak demand this summer! As a not-for-profit electric co-op, DEC returned $10 million in capital credits in November to those who were on our lines in 2012 and 2013. Capital credits are DEC's profits which are returned to members — the distribution of $10 million in capital credits is helping members during the expensive Christmas season. In October, DEC had the opportunity to extend its helping hand beyond our local community to assist with power restoration efforts following Hurricane Helene. For about two weeks, a team of nine Co-op line workers joined their counterparts from across the country in North Carolina to help those most severely impacted by the storm. Delaware Electric Co-op is proud of our team and are excited to maintain that momentum moving into 2025. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
