Not-for-Profit Power Puts Members First

Being a member of a not-for-profit electric co-op like DEC carries unique benefits. Unlike for-profit utilities, Delaware Electric prioritizes the people we power over profits. Our mission is to provide those we serve with the most reliable electric at the most affordable rates. To do this, our team works to maintain and upgrade our system, all while implementing programs that help members manage their electric costs.

In 2025, DEC's Beat the Peak program saved members $3.9 million. By voluntarily conserving energy during peak alert times, when the cost to purchase power is highest, members help the Co-op keep rates affordable for everyone on our lines. 

This year, DEC has also introduced a new energy-saving resource — the DEC Energy Marketplace. Members can sign in to this online store to buy energy-saving items at below-retail prices, with some items discounted by as much as $100. 

When you pay your monthly electric bill, you are investing in our team's commitment to develop member-focused projects like these, designed to provide quality electric service at affordable prices. As a return on your investment, the Co-op actually gives money back to members in the form of capital credits.
