On Wednesday, February 7, President and CEO Rob Book returned to DEC for the first time since doctors determined he needed a heart transplant in the fall of 2023. Upon his return, Book addressed his employee family in person for the first time in over four months, thanking them for their continued prayers and support for him and his family during his hospitalization.

“Thank you does not even begin to describe how much gratitude I have for my Co-op family,” Book says. “From preparing meals for my family while I was in the hospital, to sending uplifting cards and videos, to holding prayer circles for me in the office, I am truly overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and support.”

Book says that he was also deeply moved to receive so many well wishes from DEC members, many of whom showed their support by sending motivational emails during his time out of the office. For now, Book will be working in the office in a part-time capacity as he continues his recovery process and eases back into a regular schedule. The Co-op family is so excited — and thankful — to welcome him back!
