Sign Up for DEC's Beat the Peak with Thermostats Program
Jul. 7, 2026 | Co-op News
Did you know that a slight adjustment to your thermostat can help you — and all DEC members — save money on your electric bill? If you use a smart thermostat in your home, we encourage you to sign up for the Co-op’s Beat the Peak with Thermostats program. When members sign up, they agree to allow the Co-op to remotely adjust their thermostat by a few degrees during summer peak alerts — when the cost to produce power is highest. This helps DEC keep electric rates affordable for everyone we power. Beat the Peak with Thermostats participants not only save money, but they also can earn money in the form of billing credits. When you sign up for the program, you will receive an initial $25 billing credit, as well as an additional $5 credit every month throughout the summer season. Members who use Amazon, Nest, Honeywell, HoneywellLyric, Ecobee or Sensi/Emerson Wi-Fi-enabled thermostats are eligible to participate. If you are interested in purchasing a smart thermostat, visit DEC’s online Energy Marketplace to shop for these and other energy-saving products at discounted prices — with some thermostats reduced by as much as $50. Visit myco-opmarketplace.com/dec and log in with your DEC account number and ZIP code to start shopping today. Since 2008, DEC’s Beat the Peak program has saved members over $45 million, thanks to the support of those we’re proud to power. Just a few degrees can make a big difference — save energy and money when you “beat the peak” with thermostats. Visit beatthepeak.coop to sign up today.
