As a member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperative, DEC operates differently from an investor-owned utility. We don’t have outside shareholders expecting a return on their investment. Instead, we’re owned by the members we serve, and our focus is on providing value to those members today while making smart investments for the future. DEC consistently works to keep electricity costs low. Our rates remain among the lowest in Delaware and the region, helping members save hundreds of dollars each year compared with neighboring utilities. We invest in our employees, equipment and electric system to provide dependable power — and when severe weather causes outages, our crews work around the clock to restore service as safely and quickly as possible.
