Tips to Get Ready for Winter Weather!
Dec. 23, 2025 | Co-op News
Just as we encourage those we serve to be ready when summer storms strike, DEC encourages members to be prepared for winter weather as well. Pay attention to local weather alerts to stay informed of potential storms or hazardous conditions. Before a winter storm strikes, insulate, caulk and weatherstrip your house to guard against the elements.
It’s also important to ensure you have fully-stocked emergency preparedness kits that are easily accessible. These kits should include adequate amounts of food, water and medication for all members of your household, including any pets. In addition, make sure that you have extra sets of weather-appropriate clothing, such as coats, hats and gloves should you lose power or need to go outside. You may want to consider creating two kits — one for home, and one for in the car. Other useful tools to have on hand include extra batteries, battery packs to charge phones and other devices, a battery-powered radio and a flashlight.
