DEC's Beat the Peak program was designed with one goal in mind: to help keep electric rates affordable for the people and places we power. To achieve this, the Co-op asks members to conserve energy during peak times — when the cost of producing power is highest. Beat the Peak depends on the support of those we serve, and there are a variety of ways you can participate.

A great way to get started is to download DEC's Beat the Peak app. Members can receive notifications when DEC issues peak alerts, see how much money the program has saved members throughout the years and find tips on the best ways to save energy.

Suggestions are simple! During peak times, members may choose to turn off unnecessary lights, delay the use of major appliances or opt to fire up the grill instead of using their stove — efforts that limit energy use with minimal impact to your daily routine.

Members who use smart thermostats in their homes can also sign up to participate in DEC's Beat the Peak with Thermostats program. By allowing the Co-op to remotely adjust your thermostat by just a few degrees during peak alert times, you can help keep electric costs affordable for everyone on our lines. Members who sign up will receive an initial $25 billing credit, as well as a monthly $5 billing credit during the summer season.
